I just kind of hate the whole boycotting bandwagon that gets sent careening down the mountain every time anyone is unhappy with a choice made (or not made) by a business or individual. It has become so easy, thanks to our digitally-shared lives, to jump online and start a rally cry of “Let’s boycot ______!!”. It is a negative stance, and one that does nothing to lift up or encourage… so I am not lending my name to petitions, nor am I lending my voice to “I won’t shop here!” choruses that are flooding the social media streams.

Instead, I will choose to shop at retailers this holiday season who value their employees over their profits. Those which recognize that the seasonal goals of their customers may not include fighting the masses over a coffee maker, actually. Companies that agree that the third Thursday in November is traditionally a day meant to be filled with thoughts of gratitude for our blessings (great and small) and family and friends, and is worth protecting.

This season, and throughout the other eleven months of the year, I choose to support positive thoughts and activities and turn away from the negative. So, when I am not shopping local for my holiday gifts, I will be a customer of one of these companies that will be CLOSED November 27th. Will you will join me in spreading the positivity?

  1. I agree! I think there’s been multiple types of boycott demands lately both locally and nationally. I don’t see how it does much, at least nothing useful. I prefer instead to spend so much time supporting businesses and organizations that I appreciate that the idea of supporting ones I don’t stand with becomes a moot point.
