Waving my arms.

I’m here, waving my arms. Could be that I’m drowning, as so many of us are, in the “post-covid” reality that we will never really be “post-covid”. I’ve had it twice now, the second time being super mild and symptomatically insignificant but also the cause of ongoing, albeit sporadic, heart rate fluctuations and palpitation episodes. Good times.

There’s also the desperate waving to make sure my writing community on Twitter finds me on other platforms as the bird app seems determined to go the way of the Norwegian Blue. But let’s change the vibe and consider that I could be waving for a more uplifting reason, mmmkay??

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve signed a contract with ELJ Editions, the press arm of Emerge Literary Journal, to publish a collection of my flash and micro stories! I have read several of the books published by ELJ over the last year or so and have been so impressed with the quality of their writers and the finished product, and couldn’t be happier about this partnership. Here’s a little collage of celebration!

Pre-sales should begin after the first of the year, and publication date is currently set for April 15, 2023. I’ll be creating the cover for the book as well as six illustrations for the interior, so I have my work cut out for me to get it all ready to go by the middle of next month. Send all the creative vibes you can spare!

This year has passed ridiculously quickly, and there have been a lot of ups and downs for my family on many fronts. I going to be intentional about finding time to rest and consider the good things that have come my way and I encourage you to do the same. And please take time to care for yourself if you’re in a dark place. Try to share the love you have with those who need it, including yourself.

If you have happy news to share, feel free to put it in the comments section! I would love to celebrate with you!

Cheers.

  1. Congrat Laurie. I’m not familiar with ELJ Editions, but will check it out. It’s always exciting to get a new publishing opportunity.
I have a history article coming out next month in “Flashback” the quarterly journal published by the Washington County Historical Society. It’s entitled “B. F. Little – Reconstruction Sheriff of Washington County.”
A couple of my stories won major awards at the Ozark Creative Writers Conference this fall. The year has had it’s ups & downs, but more ups overall.
Looking forward to reading more of your work.

    1. Congratulations on the awards! I just couldn’t get loose to make it to the conference. It always seems to happen during busy times around here.

Thanks for reading and here’s to more good than bad. 🍻
