Coming from a thespian background, it’s easy to say that it’s just wonderful to be nominated for an award… but to actually be GIVEN one, well… I’m all a-flutter up in here!

My friend Jodi, who started as my sister’s friend, but who has become my friend over the last couple of years (and who is a dynamite side-kick when one is having a yard sale, letmetellyou!), has given me this sweet award that is geared toward introducing folks to new blogs. Because, really, we all need more things to look at on the computer, right?? I know I do. :)

So, to accept the Liebster Award, I’m supposed to:

1. Write 11 random things about myself
2. Answer the questions I was asked
3. Nominate and notify 11 bloggers of their notifications
4. Ask 11 questions of my nominees
5. Link back to the person who nominated me.

The point is to find new blogs, follow new people and laugh and dance with glee and it’s all rainbows and glitter bombs on the interwebs. Yay! I may have read a lot between the lines to get to this personal interpretation…

Here are my eleven random things (it was hard to narrow this down, y’all…):

1. The name of the singing and dancing group I invented when I was 9 years old was The Daisies. We wore yellow leotards and white tail coats and top hats and performed on my back patio. If only I’d had an agent, or a dad like Michael Jackson’s. Or maybe not.

2. I never really understood the big love people had for beaches until I visited Cozumel. I get it now.

3. When I turned 16 my mother and step-dad gifted me with a brand new key ring with a golden heart engraved with my initial. Also dangling from the key ring was a brand new key… to my mom’s Oldsmobile. Buzzkill.

4. Peter Gabriel’s video for Shock the Monkey changed my life.

5. When I was 13 I made a call and signed myself for an appointment at a modeling school. My mother felt compelled to enroll me in the classes, but never took me back to pick up my final photo shoot photos. Payback??

6. I brake for sunsets.

7. I was named after the street in southern California that my great aunt lived on – Laurie Lane.

8. When I was in the Army Reserves I shot an M-16 rifle with Expert accuracy. Don’t mess with me, zombies!

9. My favorite color is turquoise. It makes my soul happy.

10. I completed a bachelor’s degree at the age of 39, and had a baby while I was enrolled. I may be an overachiever. Or just nuts. Probably the latter.

11. I’ve eaten trout from a lake in the middle of the San Juan mountains of Colorado.I recommend it to everyone.

Okay, now for the questions from Jodi…

1. What book(s) should we (your readers) read next?

I encourage everyone to read John Adams by David McCollough. American history, great human being, and a love story. What more do you want?

2. What movie are you sort of embarrassed to admit you love?

I’m not sure that I’m embarrassed by any movie love, but I don’t know if everyone would understand my love for the old movies made in the 1940s and 1950s… Elvis, Doris Day, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. Those were the days.

3. Dogs or cats?  And why?

Cats. Because my husband is not a dog guy. One day, though, I will have a weiner dog!!

4. Does the idea of life on other planets excite you or freak you out?

Fascinating. And I believe there is life elsewhere, just not in this galaxy. And I don’t think the women will be green.

5. If you could cook any one dish without having to learn how to do it, what would it be?

Anything Indian.

6. What one item of furniture in your house would you never, ever part with?

My mother’s china cabinet. It’s perfect.

7. Boxers or briefs?

Let’s be real, it depends on the butt. :)

8. If suddenly politicians were unable to advertise their campaigns, and pundits stopped talking about politics, and you had to get your information by seeking it out from the candidates directly, would you be more likely to vote?

No, I vote no matter what. I believe it’s my duty and I pay taxes in order to have the right to do it.

9.  Christmas decor in stores before Halloween – yea or nay?

NAY, NAY, NAY!!!!

10. Is there someone in your family who inspires you?  Who is he/she and why?

So many people in my family inspire me in different ways. My grandmother’s creative and repurposing spirit inspires me, my mother’s complete and unfailing optimism inspire me, my sister’s self-confidence and unwillingness to sacrifice her own needs inspire me. And my family’s support for my creative efforts and dreams inspire me every day.

11. If you could trade your smartphone/cell phone for 3 extra hours in the day, would you?

Nope. Those three hours would be filled with things I can do in minutes on my iPhone.

And now, here are MY questions and Leibster Award recipients:

1. If money were no object, what would you do with two months off work?

2. Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings?

3. What record album or cd changed your life and why?

4. If you were going to start a non-profit, who would it benefit?

5. What’s your superpower?

6. Heels or flats?

7. Which chef would you invite to cook your Thanksgiving meal?

8. If you were chosen to be a companion to Dr. Who, where and when would you like to go?

9. What accomplishment are you most proud of in your life? (kids and marriage not allowed!)

10. Would you rather sail around the world or fly around the world?

11. Which book could you read over and over and over again?

And here are MY nominees for the Liebster award. They’re supposed to be blogs with fewer than 3000 followers, but I have no idea how many followers this ladies have. Also, I chose them because I love reading their words and I think you will too. Go check them out and give them some love!
