The society we live in is so incredibly focused on convenience and getting things done quickly, we have completely lost the connection we once had to doing things for the sheer pleasure of doing them. Sweeping and raking, to me, are actually relaxing. Maybe I’m nuts. I feel good to know that I’m getting a little exercise, and at the same time I can listen to the sound of birds, talk to my neighbor across the street… just enjoy my neighborhood.

Yesterday evening my neighbor several houses away was using a blower to move his grass clippings around, and my hubby and I literally had to raise our voices to speak to each other as we played with our son in our front yard.  What a waste of energy and invasion of the peace and quiet of the evening.

And now, I am vowing to quit complaining… I sound like a crochety old woman.

  1. Okay, now you’re starting to sound like my weed-pullin’ mother! At least the part about enjoying raking and sweeping. :)

  2. Did you say something about your crotch?

  3. I agree! Nothing ruins my day like listening to a leaf blower whine for hours. I’m pretty sure my love for raking is related to my OCD but I find it soothing, too. : )

  4. Denise, you’re a weird woman. Thank god I’m not alone!

  5. I’d posit that the person with the leaf-blower works for the Dish Network. It’s a scheme.

  6. Someone should make special cards for leaf blowin’ people.. you know, kinda like those “you park like shit” cards. Why, why, why blow that stuff around? I sorta enjoy raking, too. :)

  7. I blame the disconnect on large screen HD TV’s.

  8. Hey! I decided to join your blog party!
