Arkansas is my home, and my family has more than their fair share of creative people. (If you can’t draw a straight line, blame it on my family having all the straight-line-drawing DNA.) One of my favorite things to do as a writer is to showcase “makers” – crafters and artists who are creating beautiful things.
feet, bare and winter-dry, meet the mat. good morning. thighs, cold and stiff, cannot forget the herb garden. arms, stretched and open, palms face up to hold the sun. heart, quiet and focused, open wide. namaste.
I was asked to create some spooky tales based on real-life legends from around Arkansas for OnlyinArk.com, and have really enjoyed putting these together. It’s interesting how many states have their own local legends that sound very similar to these ghost stories of Arkansas. I guess it just proves that whether or not we believe […]
Last year was the first full year that I spent calling myself a Writer. I am pretty pleased with the things I accomplished in twelve months. Here’s a run-down: Replaced over half of my take-home pay from my previous job; Developed relationships with several local and regional publications and companies; Worked with several awesome clients […]
I have been a crafty person since I was young, thanks to my mom who was always working on some kind of handmade project. She sewed dresses for me, made holiday decorations, and even sold Cabbage Patch doll knock-offs at local craft shows. I am not so much an apple from her tree, but more […]
When the announcement was made that an art museum was being planned in Bentonville, Arkansas, the global art community basically rolled their eyes and snorted. As part of the Arkansas Women Bloggers (ARWB), I occasionally come across an opportunity to test a product or service or attend an event in exchange for sharing information about it with my readers. I have never accepted one of these opportunities if I didn’t think they were things that already fit into my lifestyle […]
Well, not really a fight, per se… a battle, perhaps. Or simply an informed discussion. The local news reported last night on the recent creation of a Change.org petition to allow Springdale citizens to keep chickens in their backyard, and it’s going to be interesting to watch this play out. As you may know, I […]
There are plenty of things on my to-do list that I could have been working on today. The fully decorated Christmas tree in my living room, for example… But the sun was out, and it was possible to be outside without long underwear and a various assortment of handknitted accessories, so we grabbed the Boychild […]
