A couple of years ago, I had an idea, as I approached “mid-life”, to create a podcast about embracing the opportunities and time that open up when you reach a certain age. As I look around, I see people in their forties and fifties are starting new careers, taking on new hobbies, and rekindling dreams that they may have been sitting on since they were teens.

We are healthier than our parents and grandparents were at our age, being employed with one company or focused on one career path for decades is no longer required (or even an option, in some cases) and we are coming to a crossroads – maybe more than one – and figuring out where to go from here.

For many of us, the only thing keeping us from pulling out those dreams of our youth and polishing them up for another shot is our own self-doubt. We have assumed that the opportunities to reach those dreams were missed when we were in our twenties and were gone forever. But I think we were wrong.

I see a whole lot of us living what I am referring to as a Repurposed Life. We are screwing our courage to the sticking post, cramming all our life experience into a carry-on bag and running off to do something new. Now is not the time to say “If I could do it again knowing what I know now…”. It’s time to say “I’m doing it NOW!”

So, going forward, I’ll be exploring what it means to Live a Repurposed Life here, as well as writing about writing – since that’s my repurposed life. I’ll also be sharing on that podcast I thought of years ago, that I’m planning to launch in early 2018. (<—– That’s me making myself accountable by announcing it, so don’t hesitate to nudge me about it now and then.)

Topics will include how to put your self-doubt in a closet while you get busy making things happen, discussion about topics of interest to people making changes in their lives, and living a focused/healthy/centered “mid-life”. I plan to interview some people who are living well in their forties and fifties and beyond, folks who have changed their lives and lived to tell about it, and others who might have advice for those of us who are considering our options.

Thinking about the idea of Living a Repurposed Life, what would you like to see? I’d love to hear from you with any suggestions for topics to explore, research to discuss, guests to feature, books, music, whatever it means to you. Let’s collaborate!

Thank you so much for joining me on this adventure – I appreciate you!
